Certified Veterinary Technician

Animal Eye Care of New England in South Deerfield, MA is seeking a Certified Veterinary Technician to join our modern and well-established ophthalmology referral practice.
Increasing burnout rates amongst veterinary staff have led to significant staff shortages in our field over the past few years. The ophthalmology technicians are working as the doctor’s right-hand while relaying information to our clients and staff. They are responsible for organizing the daily activities of the doctor during appointments and while in surgery. They are also client advocates, ensuring the client needs and concerns are addressed on all levels.
Responsibilities include assisting with appointments and surgery, client communications, computer/data entry, and routine technical skills: humane pet restraint, iv catheter placement and venipuncture, medication administration, patient monitoring, filling prescriptions, lab work. Understanding and experience with all aspects of anesthesia is required.

About us
Established in 2013, our independently owned and operated, 2,500-square-foot modern hospital sits at the base of Mount Sugarloaf in Whately, Massachusetts. The property boasts manicured landscaping with three acres of land for patients to explore. The building offers a spacious waiting area and three large exam rooms, including a dedicated feline room; all equipped with tonopen/tonovet, slitlamps, direct and indirect ophthalmoscope. There is an indoor large animal exam area with a holding stall and paddocks with easy trailer parking. Our hospital is unique in that it has a dedicated surgical suite with a separate air ventilation system to allow for sterility! Our state-of-the-art equipment includes e.g. a Zeiss S7 operating microscope, White Star phacoemulsification system, Iridex DioVet laser incl. headset, RetinoGraphics ERG, Accutome B-scan plus, Accutome 48 MHz UBM-plus; Peschke CXL system. We also have an on-site laboratory and pharmacy.

Ophthalmology Internship
Animal Eye Care of New England is excited to be offering an Ophthalmology Internship at our private practice located in Western Massachusetts beginning January 1st, 2024, through December 31, 2024. Our goal for the Ophthalmology Internship is to provide clinical training and education to prepare a potential residency candidate with the knowledge for a successful residency placement.
Clinical duties will be under the supervision and guidance of diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmology and will include examination, diagnosis, and treatment of ocular conditions of companion animals, as well as selected surgeries. Interns will assist technicians with patient care and surgical preparation of patients. They will be required to participate in a 2-week clinical visit to COPLOW as well as histopathology and journal club rounds at Tufts University or similar externship.
